ANNOUNCING THE COOMBE CASTLE CHEESE COURT

As the world watched Catherine Middleton become the newest member of the Royal family, cheese lovers everywhere were getting their last votes in to elect the new Coombe Castle Cheese Court.

King Blue Stilton’s newly crowed Queen is one of England’s oldest named cheeses, Cheshire.  Firm, crumbly, mellow and slightly salty, Cheshire and Stilton make an impressive and traditional representation of England’s cheese history.

The new Prince is a true cheese of the people.  Double Gloucester with Chives & Onions is a favored Pub Cheese, served to local patrons and weary travelers alike with a good pint of Ale. Strong of flavor and enjoyed by all, the crowned Prince is a definite crowd pleaser.

After the former Queen’s beheading (see video), it seems the electorate wanted to showcase England’s creamy Cornish Camembert.  Handmade with fresh English cow’s milk, Princess Cornish Camembert fills the soft-ripened spot in any cheese course with delicious distinction.

Dorset Drum Cheddar has been named Duke.  Cheddar is one of the most popular cheeses around the globe and Dorset Drum, made solely with local milk and granted government protection of origin status (PDO), is a prime example of this age-old gastronomic pleasure.

The newly named Duchess has found a use for France.  Claret is the British term for red wine from the Bordeaux region and that is what laces the creamy English Cheddar to create the beautiful red marbling in Cheddar with Claret.  However, the people clearly found fault with the French proverb: Burgundy for kings, Champagne for duchesses, Claret for gentlemen.

And one of the most lively flavor marriages to entertain with, White Stilton with Mango and Ginger, has rightfully found a spot as Court Jester!  An irresistible blend of creamy, tangy and sweet, it is a taste that will always provoke a smile.

Thank you to all our entrants.  The Winners of the 5 Coombe Castle Cheese Court Gift Baskets and the Coombe Castle 12 month English Cheese of the Month Grand Prize Winner will be announced shortly.
